Boquete Handicap Foundation

(Fundacion Pro-Integracion)

PURPOSE:   To support handicapped members of the community, especially those of low economic resources by providing an open, welcoming environment for social interaction, acquisition of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, hearing aids and scholarship funds for transportation to special education classes, physical therapy, doctor appointments and some medications and treatments that may not be covered by social services or public health organizations of the government.   In addition, family support for those with handicapped family members, in order to make them more self sufficient and to be aware of the laws beneficial to the handicapped community.

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS & OPPORTUNITIES:   There are no requirements to become a member of the organization, other than the desire to be of assistance.   Those who receive economic assistance are expected to participate in all fund raising activities and maintenance of the facilities.  Volunteers are welcome and needed to help organize activities, programs, physical or speech terapy for both children and adult clients.   This can include playing games, pushing someone in a wheelchair, reading a book, helping with handicrafts, or just being available to lend a helping hand where needed.

DAYS/TIMES OF MEETINGS:   Every Saturday from 9 am – 1 pm there is a social gathering for the clients and their families.    The first Monday afternoon of each month at 3 pm there is an official meeting of membership and board members to plan programs and approve financial assistance requests.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE:  Assistance in covering the costs of the operation of this purely volunteer organization is always appreciated, as well as donations of used articles of clothing and household goods.

LOCATION:   In the blue building with the red roof, surrounded by chain link fencing, on the Boquete-David highway, approximately 500 meters south of the Guadalupano School on the east side of the road.

Hope Foundation

This organization has a misión of education and elimination of domestic violence among Panama’s locals, and the ExPat community.   Professional assistance and counciling is provided as well as temporary housing assistance.   The organization addresses the social, psychological, medical and legal issues involved with this project.   Meetings are held each Tuesday at 4:30 pm at Valle Escondido.

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete

(Good Neighbors of Boquete)

Buenos Vecinos de Boquete (BVB) is a group of people who are dedicated to supplying food or meals to needy people (focusing on handicapped and elderly who do not have families who can help them) in the Boquete, Palmira, Caldera and Potrerillos area.  The group normally relies on food and cash donations from area residents, and from food drives and donations by local markets.   BVB is pleased to announce its new Adopt-a-Person Campaign. Donors can “adopt” a person for $30 per month, $90 per quarter or $360 per year and will have the option to become personally involved if desired. Another option would be to contribute a portion of the funds, for example, $5, $10 or $15 a month.

 

Donations can be given to Irene Haines (the book lady) at the Tuesday morning TMINM meeting at the Panamonte Inn, or can be dropped off at Chiriqui River Rafting, upstairs next to Café Lourdes on Avenieda Central (Main Street).  The following is a list of food items needed on an ongoing basis:

 

  • Small bags of flour
  • Dried beans and lentils
  • Dried soups
  • Rice
  • Small bottles of vegetable oil
  • Sardines or tuna in oil
  • Tomato paste
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Garlic
  • Worchester Sauce
  • Packages of cremas (cereals to which hot water is added)
  • Powdered milk
  • 1 oz. coffee bags

Casa Hogar Trisker

Orphanage for children who have been abandoned or otherwise cannot be cared for by their birth parents.   Located on the highway to David, on the west side of the road.    Volunteers to help with the children, and just to hold the babies, are greatly needed.   Various fund raising opportunities and volunteer opportunities are available.   Please consider helping this very worthwhile charity.

Fundacion Amigos de Animales Boquete (FADAB)

We offer low cost sterilization clinics 6 times a year in Boquete and nearby communities.

ReAL Boquete Recycling Center

Non-profit organization helping local schools develop creative programs for the children to learn to be responsible for the environment and be part of the solution for environmental contamination and improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their neighbors.  Our goal is to develop a culture of recycling as early as primary school, in hopes these lessons will be passed to their adult family members.    Meet local people involved in this effort, and/or start your own recycling program in a school near you.   We ALWAYS need volunteers, so stop by and see how you can help!   Our meetings are held on Monday, from 4 to 6 pm.   We are located next to Ana’s Sweets, directly behind Bistro Boquete.

             Closed Sunday
